[Greens-Media] MEDIA ALERT - Bus protest - Weds 3 Nov - Yarraville Community Centre students and staff protest bus timetable cut-backs

WHEN: Wednesday 3 November, 11.30am (nb - media conference by 
truck-affected residents scheduled for 11am at same location)

WHERE: Yarraville Community Centre, Francis Street Yarraville, opposite 
Stephen Street intersection.

WHAT: Staff and students at Yarraville Community Centre to hold protest 
against cuts to their bus timetable. 

WHY: 409 bus has been cut from a 20 minute service to a 40 minute service, 
impacting on students and staff.

BACKGROUND:  Yarraville Community Centre provides a range of education 
programmes to some of the most disadvantaged members of our wider 
community.  In particular it runs a large number of English as a Second 
Language classes.  Many students rely on public transport to attend class. 
The Centre has written to the bus company, and the ESL students have 
written to the local newspapers, requesting an improved service. 
This media alert has been issued by the office of Colleen Hartland MLC, at 
the request of staff and students at the Yarraville Community Centre who 
approached Colleen for help and support.  The protest has been organised 
independently of Ms Hartland's office.
