WHEN: Wednesday 3 November, 11am (nb Bus service cut-back protest in
same location at 11.30 am)
WHERE: Car Park of Yarraville Community Centre, Francis Street Yarraville
opposite Stephen Street intersection
WHAT: Media conference by residents whose houses will be acquired for the
Truck Action Plan in Yarraville, or whose houses will be on a major
trucking route after the houses next to them are acquired.
WHY: Residents with acquisition notices can't sell or renovate their
properties as they are "in limbo" with the acquisition plans. Others fear
they will end up metres from a major trucking route, and have been told
there will be no compensation for loss of property value and amenity. The
government has not announced any date or funding for the Truck Action
Plan, but instead announced funding for road widening that will increase
the number of trucks in the residential streets near their homes.
IMAGES: Trucks, houses, 10-15 residents.
MATERIALS: VicRoads "concept plan" for Francis Street and written
"personal stories" from individual residents available on request.
CONTACT: Will Todd, local resident - 0414 071 551
This media alert has been distributed by the Office of Colleen Hartland
MLC. The residents approached Colleen for help contacting the media.
Colleen supports their campaign for certainty and compensation, and has
met with them several times.
