Greens NSW MP David Shoebridge said that today's Newspoll results, which have the Greens in NSW at 17 per cent, gave hope that the Greens could halt a Coalition rubber stamp parliament in March 2011.

"Poll figures always fluctuate, but the trend over time is that more and more people are voting for The Greens.
"There is a contest between Labor and the Greens for the progressive vote in politics. The Greens are winning this contest.
"In March 2011, The Greens are the party of choice for peoplewho want their vote to make a real difference.
"With 10 federal MPs, 21 state MPs and more than 100 local Greens councillors, The Greens have leap-frogged the Nationals to be Australia's third largest party.
"On these figures, The Greens have strong prospects of sending our first MPs into the lower house, with our best prospects being Marrickville and Balmain. In the Upper House we will definitely increase our representation.
"NSW voters are angry with Labor, and they have every right to be. Labor deserves to lose this election, but the Coalition don't deserve to win.
"NSW voters are clearly going away from Labor, but this doesn't mean an automatic votefor the Coalition.
"People are right to be worried aCoalition Government's effect on NSW on public services and infrastructure.
"The Coalition have been running a smoke and mirrors campaign to date: criticising Labor but failing to put forward an alternative.
"The truth is that with the Coalition we'll get more of the same.
"A hung parliament in the lower house appears unlikely. However the Greens winning key seats in the Upper House is a real possibility.
"NSW voters want to punish Labor, but they don't want or need topunish themselves.
"Increased Greens representation in the NSW Upper House is crucial to avoid a rubber stamp Coalition government.
"You only have to look at the final years of the Howard government to see what a rubber stamp parliament would mean for NSW.
"A Greens balance of power situation will ensure for NSW leadership in climate change, a progressive policy agenda, and continued focus on public services and infrastructure.
"Planning, the environment, public services and transport are priorities for the Greens," Mr Shoebridge said.
