MP TV Ad ban just the beginning: Greens
Mike Rann has been forced to ban MPs from appearing in taxpayer funded TV and radio ads in response to an Upper House inquiry into the practice set up by the Greens.
"Premier Rann's announcement today is very much the beginning," said Greens MLC and Chair of the Inquiry, Mark Parnell.
"This was not done out of the goodness of his heart, but because his Department was about to appear this afternoon before an Upper House inquiry to defend the indefensible.
"Yet, just because we won't see an MP in a taxpayer funded ad doesn't mean the ad isn't still blatantly party political. The pointless series of ads promoting the most recent budget is a good example.
"This move by the Premier shows the importance of the Upper House in keeping the Government accountable," he said.
