The Tasmanian Greens today said that Michael Aird has misled the
Parliament, and therefore the Tasmanian people, over whether he had
initially authorised the go-ahead of the $450, 000 Tasmania Brand TV
project, as indicated by the release of Ministerial office documentation
under Freedom of information provisions.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that if Michael Aird had documentation
to back up his assertion that he had not authorised progress on the
Brand Tasmania TV project, contrary to the released office email and
Departmental Minute, then he should release it.

"Treasurer Aird is trying to argue that black is white and that war is
peace by trying to claim that the email sent from his office giving the
ok for the Tasmanian Brand TV series to commence should not be
interpreted as some form of go-ahead," Mr McKim said.

"The documentation released under FoI makes it clear that either Mr Aird
has misled Parliament, or he is so incompetent that he cannot control
significant decisions such as the expenditure of almost half a million
dollars."

"This is a desperate attempt to spin himself out of a very difficult
spot, and Mr Aird is seriously underestimating the intelligence of the
Tasmanian public if he thinks they are going to fall for it."

"If Michael Aird cannot run his office, then how can he run the State's
finances?"

"The Premier needs to state that he expects the highest possible
ministerial standards, and direct Michael Aird to stop dissembling and
come clean."
