Greens leader Bob Brown says the Howard government
should stop aid, including training of military officers in
'counter-terrorism', with the brutal Burmese military dictatorship.
"Alexander Downer's fear that the military will subject
the pro-democracy protest leaders to 'very harsh treatment' is in absurd
contrast with the Howard government's twin policies of training the
Burmese military and keeping open unrestricted trade.
"Mr Downer is all description of the Burmese events and
no action," Senator Brown said.
The Greens call for the suspension of military training
and trade with what the government itself describes as this 'brutal'
regime.

Greens MPs will support protests for the Burmese
democracy movement around the country, starting this Thursday in Sydney
at the Burmese consulate.
