19 May 2006 Just who wants Snowy Hydro sold?  The announcement by three
irrigation companies and the Ricegrowers' Cooperatives that they find
the conditions placed on the sale of Snowy Hydro unacceptable further
solidifies community opposition to the sale proceeding, says Greens MP
Sylvia Hale. "Local communities, businesses, councils, the State's
environmental organizations and workers who built the scheme as well as
National, Labor and Greens members of parliament are united in their
concern about the sale," Ms Hale said. "Other than the NSW Government,
which dragged the Victorian and State governments into the sale, and the
financial organizations such as Macquarie Bank that are handling the
sale process, it is almost impossible to find anyone in favour. "The
attempt by the NSW Government to restrict the release of documents to
the NSW parliamentary inquiry and to the public has only heightened
everyone's fears. "It is time for the State Government to recognise the
folly of what it is doing, release all relevant documents to the
inquiry, and suspend the sale process," Ms Hale said. For more
