Downer must act on Guantanamo Bay - Brown

The stark implications by David Hick's lawyers, US Major Mori and
Adelaide-based Stephen Kenny, that Hicks has had abusive treatment at
Guantanamo Bay demand action from the Foreign Minister, Greens Senator
Bob Brown said today.

"Mr Kenny has made claims of 'serious violations', which appear to have
been 'carefully orchestrated and organised at high levels of the US
command structure'," Senator Brown said.

"Both Mori and Kenny say they cannot reveal the details. It is
imperative that Alexander Downer does. His glib assurances no longer
wash.

"I have written to Mr Downer asking him to get a detailed briefing,
nothing withheld, from his US counterpart in response to the lawyers'
claims," Senator Brown said.
