TELSTRA LINE RENTAL INCREASE AN INSULT

Telstra's move to increase line rental charges for private phone
services by $3.45 is adding insult to injury Cunningham MP Michael Organ
said today.

"Phone services across Wollongong are cut every time it rains, and
Telstra's response is to claim exemption from its customer service
guarantee, so how can the corporation possibly justify increasing the
basic domestic phone line rental", Mr. Organ asked.

"My office gets a constant stream of complaints about the inadequacy of
the basic home phone service as it is, and this extra impost is simply
ridiculous."

"To charge householders the best part of $360 a year for an unreliable
service is nothing short of insulting."

"There is no justification for a 13% price hike on hardware which has
been in place for many years."

"Add to that the increased charges for paying home phone bills by credit
cars and it's clear that the government needs to pull Telstra into line,
and do it quickly", Mr. Organ said.
