Labor and Liberal unite to sell off O'Malley grassy woodland 


The ACT Labor Government and the Liberal opposition today united in
defeating Greens MLA Kerrie Tucker's motion to defer the sale of grassy
woodland in East O'Malley. 

"Labor has betrayed the community by proceeding with this land sale when it
claimed in the election that it understood the importance of protecting
endangered ecological communities" Ms Tucker said today.

 "In the debate in the Assembly Simon Corbell was parroting almost word for
word the Liberal Minister last year.  It is no surprise that the Government
didn't put out a media release on the sale. Mr Corbell would clearly have
known what the response would be."

"East O'Malley is a prime piece of endangered grassy woodland.  In fact,
there is a strong view within conservation circles that it has higher
conservation value than some of the other protected woodlands in the
Territory. That is why I am so concerned that the government is proceeding
with this sale before its promised review of the Action Plan for protecting
grassy woodlands in the ACT" Ms Tucker said.
