Brown Moves in Senate to Get Lucas Heights 'Fault Line' Documents
Greens Senator Bob Brown will move a 'return to order' motion in the Senate
requiring the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency
(ARPANSA) and Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO)
to release details of the study that has found a fault line under the site
of the proposed new nuclear reactor a Lucas Heights.
"The full preliminary results obtained by the Institute of Geological and
Nuclear Sciences (IGNS) must be released to the public as construction is
already underway at Lucas Heights," Senator Brown said.
"The Government should not hide details from the public while a complete
study is prepared.
"It is nuclear irresponsibility to allow the reactor to be built on a fault
line in the heart of Sydney. It is unconscionable of a government to keep
any details of a fault line secret.
"The Senate has the power to require that these documents are tabled. Labor
has already called for the release of the documents. I expect my move will
be supported in the Senate," Senator Brown said.
