Government forced to release Chlorine plant fatality maps 


Greens MP Lee Rhiannon said today that the Government was forced by a Greens motion in the Upper House to table fatality risk maps that show the dangers posed to Hillsdale residents by the Orica chlorine plant. 

Ms Rhiannon said, "Deputy Premier and Planning Minister Andrew Refshauge tabled the key 1983 report last week but without the maps that show who was actually put at risk by the plant. 

"The Upper House today passed a motion requiring Planning Minister Andrew Refshauge to table the missing maps.

"I believe these maps will show that the Government knew of grave dangers to residents but failed to notify them. 

"Background Briefing's expose two weeks ago showed that successive Governments have covered up on behalf of Australia's biggest chemical corporation.

"The motion requires the Minister to present the missing maps and other papers no later than 5pm, on Thursday 27 June," said Ms Rhiannon.
