Sniffer dogs debated
Greens MP Lee Rhiannon said today that the Greens would seek to block the regulation in the Upper House that allows the Police to use random sniffer dog searches on public transport routes.
Ms Rhiannon said, "John Brodgen and Bob Carr are in a race to the bottom on law and order.
"Sniffer dogs are a publicity-seeking way to find trivial amounts of cannabis when there are more cost effective uses of Police resources.
"This practice has been brought into question in Britain and ceased in some Police Commands.
"Sniffer dogs are the latest in the Labor Government's campaign against civil liberties," said Ms Rhiannon.
