MEDIA RELEASE
13 June 2002

New jobs from 'Green bans' on rainforest timber

The Construction Division of the CFMEU will launch a joint campaign with the Greens Party and the Wilderness Society tomorrow to ban the use of millions of dollars worth of imported tropical rainforest timber in disposable formply on NSW building sites.

Greens MP Lee Rhiannon said, "The Greens have been working to bring environmentalists and unions together because there are so many areas where they can cooperate.

"Tomorrow's campaign launch will show the way for unions and environmentalists to get together and set the agenda that big business and governments will have to follow.

"The major parties are out of touch because the majority of Australians support both unionism and conservation.

"Our campaign will help protect the tropical rainforests and create good jobs in the Australian timber industry at the same time," said Ms Rhiannon.
