Governor-General is Going - Brown


The Governor-General will resign or be removed because of the national and
international damage being done to Australia's reputation, Greens Senator
Bob Brown said today.

"In the nation's interest he should resign now," Senator Brown said.

"Regardless of the veracity of the specific allegations against the
Governor-General, the damage now being done to Australia's reputation means
the Governor General should go.

"The expectation is that the office of Governor-General comes with
impeccable leadership and the controversy is now robbing the office of that
image

"Tasmania's Governor, Sir Guy Green, is today fulfilling the function of
Governor General while Dr Hollingworth is overseas.  Sir Guy Green would be
an admirable interim head of state.

"The Governor General is going to resign or the Prime Minister is going to
remove him.  It would be much better for the nation if he were to go now,"
Senator Brown said.
