Greens MLA Kerrie Tucker will send off  Canberra's 20th Walk Against Want
from Commonwealth Park on Sunday at 10.00am.

Oxfam - Community Aid Abroad is a tireless advocate and supporter of
disadvantaged communities around the world" Ms Tucker said today. "And I am
honoured to be asked to start this year's Walk."

"Oxfam-CAA has a proud tradition of delivering programs that assist in
developing communities inluding East Timor, India and PNG, and in Australia.
. 
I believe community development is vital in addressing the problems of
poverty and social exclusion.  We have to acknowledge that social and
environmental issues are interlinked if we are to achieve ecological
sustainability."

"The work of Oxfam - Community Aid Abroad and similar organisations  really
give us hope for the future. "

We cannot afford to ignore the plight of other people in the world. After
all, it is one planet, not one nation, which will offer us solutions" Ms
Tucker said.
