WestConnex Housing Acquisitions Talks in Inner West Causing Community Concern
Greens NSW MP and Spokesperson for Roads and Transport, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, has expressed concerns that some residents in St Peters have today been told not to proceed with housing renovations because their house may be compulsorily acquired by the WestConnex project.
Dr Faruqi said:
"We know that along Parramatta Road, the Government issued housing acquisition notices then confusingly rescinded them and now they are telling residents in St Peters to stop renovations because they might have their house acquired.
"This amateur 'might be, might not be' approach to housing acquisitions is unfortunately to be expected from this Government who have put little planning or justification into this unnecessary project.
"Residents in St Peters and Tempe are forming community groups opposed to the thirteen billion dollar Westconnex because they know that it will only bring more pollution and more congestion to local roads. It will destroy parks and wetlands and not solve transport problems.
"The community campaign to stop the ill-conceived Westconnex toll road will continue until the money is redirected into effective and integrated transport projects" she concluded.
