The Victorian budget has shown that the National Dental Health Reform
package negotiated by The Greens has delivered a significant boost in
dental care for Victorian families.
"This state budget has shown that an extra 100,000 people received dental
care in 2013-14, a direct result of the additional $52 million in dental
health funds," said Victorian Greens spokesperson on health Colleen
Hartland.
"The dental health package has reduced the waiting times for restorative
dental care by 10 months, from 23 to 13 months, and waiting times for
dentures have halved to 11 months."
"In the coming year an addition $33 million will enable 33,000 more people
to receive dental care."
"Less than half of Australians have good oral health. That's why The
Greens have made dental health reform a top public health priority."
"It?s great to see that the government will follow through with its
commitment to rebuild of the long-neglected Footscray Dental Clinics in my
Western Suburbs electorate, the result of a hard fought community
campaign."
"The Footscray dental clinics provide emergency and general dental care to
10,000+ children and adults in the West each year. However, neglect from
subsequent governments has left the clinics crumbling and close to forced
closure."
"We?ve waited for more than a year since the rebuild was announced. It's
time to get on with the job," said Ms Hartland.
