Minister wrong on Hamid Kehazaei’s medical treatment

The Immigration Minister’s assertion that Hamid Kehazaei received ‘outstanding’ medical attention before he died from a cut foot on Manus Island has been contradicted by the Australian Medical Association and was plainly false, the Australian Greens have said.

“Scott Morrison should apologies for his false and misleading statement,” the Greens’ immigration spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“The Minister has a habit of jumping the gun and lying to the Australian public. First he falsely claimed Reza Barati was killed outside the Manus Island camp and then he went on to say that Hamid received outstanding medical treatment.

“There is clearly a problem in the way Scott Morrison is dealing with information coming from his Department.

“We either have a Minister who’s lying in an attempt to deceive the public or he’s not being briefed properly by his department, leaving him to look incompetent.

“Scott Morrison’s behaviour is unacceptable and, considering he doesn’t have the decency to step aside, Tony Abbott should step in and sack him.”
