Greens to recall Immigration Department to face Senate Estimates
The Australian Greens will move to recall the head of the Immigration Department and the Commander of Operation Sovereign Borders after both consistently failed to answer questions during this week's Senate Estimates hearings.
"Operation Secret Boats is a media strategy and nothing more," the Greens' immigration spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
"Withholding information from Senate Estimates that will be given at a press conference later in the week is absurd."
The Greens will move a motion in the Senate to recall the Immigration Department and the Commander of Operation Sovereign Borders before the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee.
"I have written to members of the Labor Party urging them to support the Greens move to recall the committee," Senator Hanson-Young said.
"Among questions that went unanswered this week were queries about the importance and scope of cooperation with Indonesia. The diplomatic meltdown between our two countries will have real world
consequences for those who are seeking protection and the Australian public.
"Those questions need to be answered.
"The lack of transparency from this government when it comes to Operation Secret Boats is ridiculous and must come to an end."
