SA Greens Leader Visits South East
Greens Parliamentary Leader, Mark Parnell MLC is visiting the South East over the next few days to talk with local people about key issues in the lead-up to the next State election.
One issue that has already been raised with the Greens is the potential impact of "unconventional gas" mining on farming land. Mark Parnell will be attending public forums on Thursday and Friday nights in Kingston SE and Mt Gambier (details below).
"In the last sitting week of Parliament, the Labor, Liberal and Family First Parties combined to vote down a Greens Bill which would have protected farmland, conservation land and urban land from "fracking" for unconventional gas. Without this protection, there will be few constraints on where this industry can go. In the Eastern States, farmers rallied together to form the "Lock the Gate Alliance" in protest at the environmental harm caused by coal and gas companies. The Lock the Gate movement is now starting to gain strength in South Australia, with the South East being the likely to be the first of the Settled Areas targeted by mining companies", said Mark Parnell.
In addition to the public meetings in Kingston SE and Mt Gambier, Mr Parnell will be inspecting local infrastructure and attending local White Ribbon Day events in Mount Gambier.
Details of two events:
Kingston SE: Thursday November 21st, at Kingston Football Club from 7:15pm
Mt Gambier: Friday November 22nd, at 6:45pm at the Institute Building, Ground Floor, City Hall.
