Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber has released partially blanked-out
government East West Toll Road documents showing the project is a dud, as
he continued his VCAT battle today for transparency about the project.

"The documents show there is no tolling option that will pay for the road,
so we will end up subsidising people to drive," said Greg Barber

"The traffic speed data in the package shows there won't be a demand for
the toll road except for a small part of morning peak hour, so the
government is considering induced demand and tolling roads that are
currently free. The traffic volume data seems to contradict the
government's statements about how many people will use the road.

"The government gave me partial access to a raft of tolling and route
option documents ahead of today's mediation, with most of the good bits
blanked out, but there's enough in there to show that the toll road is a
dud. What we need to know now is how much of a dud it is, which is why I'm
taking the case to VCAT.

"Meanwhile, I've published all the documents on my website, so now
everyone can see what a total dud the toll road is.

"The documents show that last August the government was considering a road
tunnel under Rathdowne Street, connections to Victoria Street and
Exhibition Street, off-ramps at Nicholson Street and a spaghetti junction
at Queens Pde. I hope those options are off the table for good, but really
the whole project is a dud and should be dropped before we end up throwing
good money after bad," said Mr Barber
