Pyne must sort out education jumble

Education Minister Christopher Pyne is putting strain on schools by failing to clarify funding arrangements for 2014, says Australian Greens spokesperson for Schools Senator Penny Wright.

Senator Wright said she would use Senate Estimates hearings on Wednesday to uncover more about the Coalition's plan for school funding, particularly in Victoria, where schools are still waiting on financial information.

"Christopher Pyne is always talking about the mess Labor left in schools, but from today's news<http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/victorias-schools-still-waiting-for-gonski-funds-20131117-2xp8a.html#ixzz2kwr4NzQI> we can see he's done nothing to start tidying it up," Senator Wright said.

"Schools need to know how much money they will have next year - it is not fair this government has kept them waiting.

"Christopher Pyne is creating more of a muddle by failing to be clear and transparent about his plans for our schools.

"I'll be quizzing the Education Department this week to get more information about what money should be flowing to every state and what's going to be done to make sure this money gets to the schools that need it most.

"The Australian Greens strongly support a more equitable funding system so every Australian child can have the chance to reach their potential.

"It's time for Christopher Pyne to stop talking about Labor and start talking about how he's going to ensure every Australian child starts getting a better education from next year."
