Victorian Greens Leader Greg Barber says the Victorian Government is
failing to take action on basic energy efficiency standards in the health
sector, but the same professionals will be expected to treat the health
impacts of climate change.
"Today's Auditor-General's report* shows the health sector, the second
biggest government user of energy, has dropped the ball on energy
efficiency. This doesn't just throw away money, it accelerates climate
change," said Greg Barber
"A 5% increase in efficiency over five years is not good enough,
especially when energy costs increased 25 percent, before the carbon tax.
The Greens will set clear targets for energy efficiency in government and
expand the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target to create financial
incentives."
"The health impacts of climate change are well known. More heat stroke and
respiratory disease, more natural disasters, more mosquito-borne disease
in Victoria and that's just for starters. Ironically the very health
professionals who have to work in these inefficient workplaces are the
ones warning us** that we have to shape up on climate change," said Mr
Barber
