Strikeforce Emblems: Secrecy continues to hide police report from public
Media Release - 27 November 2012
The NSW Government is continuing to hide the critical internal Strikeforce Emblems police report on secret wiretapping.
Greens NSW MP David Shoebridge said:
"For years the now police minister has been calling for the recommendations on this secret police phone tapping report to be released, but now he is burying it.
"This is the O'Farrell government copying Labor's flawed strategy of using statutory secrecy provisions to avoid release damaging internal reports.
"This report is the only critical examination to date of the circumstances that lead to more than 100 police, journalists and lawyers having their phones bugged by an internal affairs unit of the NSW Police that had gone rogue.
"Rather than release the report and allow the public to judge its merits, the government has continued to hide the issue.
"Just last week the Government enacted new secrecy laws for the Ombudsman to ensure that even if that office holds a hearing on the matter the truth will continue to be hidden from the public," Mr Shoebridge said.
