[Greens-Media] Manor Lakes election miracle

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has expressed delight at today's announcement 
that the Regional Rail Link through Manor Lakes will be placed in a 
cutting.

"It's amazing what can happen during an election campaign," said Ms 
Hartland.

"When I spoke to Mr Pallas about it in April, he said it wasn't possible."

"In June when 4,568 people signed a petition I raised the issue in 
parliament.  When the Transport Minister responded in parliament on 10 
August, he still couldn't say whether they could do it.  But with an 
election 8 weeks away, they are pulling their socks up!."

"Without the cutting, there would have been a lot of physical and visual 
impact from the overpasses. It would have cut the Manor Lakes community in 
half."

"The local Catholic school would have lost its sporting ground.  And this 
is a school that already has accessibility issues and is expected to have 
3000 students by 2014."

"The local residents did a great job campaigning, and it's been a pleasure 
taking their issue to parliament.  Good on them!" said Colleen Hartland.
