*Greens denounce extreme right fear campaign on same-s*x adoption*



Greens MLC-elect Cate Faehrmann has thrown her support behind the same-s*x
adoption bill currently before the parliament and warned against any
watering-down of protections for the children of same-s*x partnerships to
pander to the demands of the extreme right.



“The rights of children are paramount. Kids with same-s*x parents deserve
the same legal and emotional assurances as other kids,” Ms Faehrmann said.



“Mooted amendments to remove anti-discrimination protections will serve only
to diminish the rights of children and potentially prevent best-possible
life opportunities for kids.



“Independent MP Clover Moore’s bill is welcome and long overdue. New South
Wales should join such jurisdictions as the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa
and the UK in allowing same-s*x adoption.



“Liberal party powerbroker David Clarke and the Rev. Fred Nile’s suggestions
that abortions would increase if gay couples were allowed to adopt are
ridiculous and loaded with prejudice. It’s time for New South Wales to move
into the 21st century.” Ms Faehrmann said.


Cate Faehrmann is set to enter the Legislative Council next week, and will
be the Greens' spokesperson for Sexuality and Gender Identity.
