Greens MLC Colleen Hartland called for a night truck curfew in Footscray
and funding for the real Truck Action Plan, at the Less Trucks for Moore
blockade in Footscray this morning.
"This is my community. These protesters are my neighbours. I know how
many trucks use this street at night."
"A night curfew would cost nothing. The government could make it happen
tomorrow if they cared."
"Last week's announcement of more road widening for more trucks in
Footscray and Yarraville was just outrageous. I'm sick of hearing 'it's
part of the plan' when the only part that gets funded is the part that
puts more trucks onto residential streets."
"I am very proud to live in a community that can spill out onto the
streets like this in a peaceful way, and make their voices heard loudly
and clearly. The trucks are keeping them awake at night, the diesel is
poisoning their children and the roads are clogged with freight. "
"It was so heartening to hear the the residents calling for freight on
rail, because that's such a big part of the solution."
