O'Farrell's club tax cuts follow hot on the heels of big donations

Media release: 11 October 2010

Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell's plan to give poker machine clubs a
tax break is a worrying sign for democracy, according to Greens NSW MP
John Kaye.

Dr Kaye said: “The Opposition has buckled to the clubs industry on
poker machine taxes.

"Barry O'Farrell has demonstrated that a vote for the Liberal and
National Parties in March 2011 will be a vote for business as usual in
NSW.

"It is very disturbing that a week after the Greens exposed the shift
in donations from clubs and pubs to the coalition, Barry O'Farrell has
handed these pokie moguls a $210 million windfall.

"If the public perception of NSW politics is ever to improve then the
system of political donations needs root and branch reform.

"By showing favours to big donors, any future O'Farrell government
would simply be a continuation of the style of the Labor party
government that is proving so unpopular,” Dr Kaye said.
