More toll roads and motorways won't fix Sydney's congestion problems –
Greens

The Coalition's plans for a motorway network company in partnership
with private toll road companies can only lead to further congestion on
Sydney's roads, says Greens MP and transport spokesperson Cate
Faehrmann.

"The Coalition says the start to their congestion plan could be in
talking to various toll road companies – the Greens say let's start
with new rail projects and new cycleways," said Ms Faehrmann.

"Sydney's transport plan should not be developed in partnership with
corporations whose financial interests are in keeping people in cars.
More cars means more profits for toll companies – this doesn't sound
like a plan to reduce congestion to me.

"More investment in fast and efficient public transport is the best way
to get cars off the roads to reduce congestion and the related costs to
business and commuters.

"The Greens will use our position in the new Parliament to encourage a
long-term viable transport plan for Sydney with fast, efficient public
transport at its core," said Ms Faehrmann.
