NSW Greens MP and Federal Senate Candidate Lee Rhiannon visits
Blackheath and Springwood
WHAT: NSW Greens MP Lee Rhiannon and NSW candidate for the Senate in
this year’s federal election is visiting Blackheath and Springwood.
WHY:
· To support the Blackheath Transport Action Group’s campaign opposing
a transport company, Patrick's, taking all their freight off rail and
putting it onto the road, estimated to put 4,500 more trucks on the
road.
· Ms Rhiannon will also join local Greens at a street stall in
Springwood with Greens candidate for Macquarie, Carmel McCallum.
WHEN:
· Rail Freight Rally: 9.30-10.30am, Thursday 27 May: Outside the
Ivanhoe Hotel, Great Western Highway, Blackheath
· Local Greens stall: 12:00-1:00pm, Thursday 27 May: Springwood.
Greens MP and NSW Federal Senate candidate Lee Rhiannon said:
“I'm looking forward to meeting locals when I am campaigning in
Blackheath and Springwood on Wednesday.
"At the Greens community forum at our street stall, myself and the
Greens candidate for Macquarie Carmel McCallum are keen to hear from
residents about their concerns and get feedback on the Greens’
priorities for the federal election.
"More trucks on Blue Mountains' roads risks increased accidents and
deaths. The Federal Government should be investing in environmentally
friendly rail freight infrastructure.
“The Greens are campaigning hard to ensure NSW again has a Federal
Senator working to tackle climate change and give voice to local
issues such as the impact of freight moving from rail to the road.
“A NSW Greens Senator in Canberra will give us a much needed voice on
issues like protecting our natural environment and promoting safe and
sustainable rail freight.
