The Tasmanian Greens today said Human Services Minister Lin Thorp is
obviously under pressure over the unacceptable housing waiting list, and
is resorting to misrepresenting other MPs as a diversion.

Greens Housing spokesperson Tim Morris MP said the Minister alleged in
Parliament today that he has only ever approached her office over
housing issues on behalf of a private developer, when in fact Mr Morris
has repeatedly approached the Minister's office on behalf of a large
number of frustrated Tasmanians who are either unable to get housing or
who need to transfer their housing for various legitimate reasons.

Mr Morris also said the Minister's lie appeared to be aimed directly at
his push for the establishment of supported accommodation for the
homeless in a former nursing home on Star Street, in Sandy Bay - a
worthy project that the Labor Government walked away from after
encouraging the building owners to go through four years of court cases
and planning appeals.

"Out of desperation, Minister Lin Thorp has now taken distorting my
involvement in advocating to her office on behalf of my constituents,"
said Mr Morris.

"I have contacted the Minister's office countless times on behalf of my
constituents over housing matters."

"The owners of the Star Street property are people who want to be part
of a solution for homeless Tasmanians. But the Labor Government's
response was to put them through four years of bureaucratic hell, and
now the Minister is having a shot at them from the safety of Cowards
Castle."

"I call on Minister Thorp to withdraw her deliberate deception about me,
and to apologise to Parliament, as well as to all those Tasmanians who
have sought help to acquire housing on whose behalf I have advocated,
plus everyone involved in trying to get Star Street up-and-running as
accommodation for homeless Tasmanians," said Mr Morris.
