The Tasmanian Greens today called on the State Government to work with
the Waratah-Wynyard Council to urgently resolve the ongoing planning
problems surrounding the Preolenna home of Mr and Mrs Richard and Joan
Bridge.
Greens Housing spokesperson Tim Morris MP said Mr and Mrs Bridge require
a planning permit for their existing house on Preolenna Road but,
despite an ongoing review, the Waratah-Wynyard Council has so far been
unable to resolve the situation, leaving the couple under constant
threat of eviction from their own home.
Mr Morris also congratulated Mr and Mrs Bridge for their recent 60th
wedding anniversary.
"The Waratah-Wynyard Council has been unable to resolve the problems
facing the Bridges, so the State Government must step in and take action
to ensure a resolution to this impasse," said Mr Morris.
"At the very least, the Government must prevent the Council from
evicting the Bridges from their own home while a review of this entire
process is actually underway."
"The Greens are reiterating our call for the State Government to assist
the Bridges during this difficult process. If the Minister had
intervened when we first raised this issue three months ago, on May
21st, then the Bridges may have been well on the way to securing a
resolution to this ongoing issue," said Mr Morris. [i]
