Rhiannon in talks for statewide Greens support at southeast actions to close chipmill
Greens MP and southeast spokesperson Lee Rhiannon is in Bega tomorrow to discuss with local Greens groups and environment organisations the party's plan to hold their state conference in the southeast in December with the key focus on closing Eden Chipmill.
"Greens members from across the state are keen to use the end of year state conference as an opportunity to take actions to back the closure of the local chipmill and end intensive logging of native forests in the region," Ms Rhiannon said.
"Tomorrow I will be meeting with the Bega Greens and the Southeast Regional Conservation Alliance to coordinate our plans.
"These discussions will be very useful. I am keen to hear the plans of locals and receive an update on the status of many species under threat from State Forest activities.
"The recent local sightings of the endangered swift parrots has brought renewed support for actions to stop logging native forests in this area.
"We will be discussing what will be the most appropriate actions and protests to take during the conference.
"We are considering that one of the conference days will involve a convergence on a key forest area slated for logging.
"We expect there will be a strong turnout at the Bega conference from the more than 50 Greens local groups that make up the Greens NSW.
"The conference will be held on 5 and 6 December," Ms Rhiannon said.
