Brown calls on Coonan to intervene to save Launceston call centre

The Howard government holds responsibility for the 270 jobs that will be
lost from the proposed closure of Telstra's call centre in Launceston,
Greens Leader Bob Brown

"When the Howard government sold the rest of Telstra it assured
Australians that jobs and services in regional Australia would be
protected. Instead, 257 people in Launceston have been sacked," Senator
Brown said.

"This is almost the same number of jobs promised by the pulp mill."

"Responsibility for the 257 jobs lost in Launceston sits directly in the
Prime Ministers' lap. Voters in Bass will feel abandoned by the Howard
government."

"The Greens call on Communications Minister Helen Coonan to intervene to
save Launceston's Telstra call centre and its 270 jobs," Senator Brown
said.
