Howard should veto, not abet nuclear sales to bomb-testing India -

28th July, 2007
The Prime Minister, John Howard, should veto US President Bush's deal to
sell $5 billion of nuclear technology and equipment to India despite
Indian plans for more nuclear weapons tests, Greens Leader Bob Brown
said today.
"Australia has the power to block consensus on this dangerous deal,
which undermines the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Yet Mr Howard
wants to make a bad deal worse by supplying Australian uranium to the
Indian nuclear industry, freeing up Indian nuclear fuel to make bombs.
India is fast gaining the ability to have rockets filled with nuclear
warheads reach Australian cities. The Prime Minister is critically
poised to decide whether Asia becomes a more dangerous nuclear region.
Pakistan also wants Australian uranium and Al Quaeda is seeking nuclear
weapons technology," Senator Brown said.
