Greens look to Ontario for climate change solutions.

22 July 2007

Australian Greens Senator Kerry Nettle met with the leader of the
Ontario Greens Mr Frank de Jong in Sydney today to discuss Ontario's
proactive approach to climate change.

"It's clear New South Wales could learn a lot from Ontario's committed
approach to reducing climate changing emissions," Senator Nettle said.

"Unlike the New South Wales Labor Government, Ontario takes the issue of
climate change seriously. They are streets ahead with their commitment
to renewable energy.

"Government backing for feed-in laws that guarantee a good minimum price
for renewable energy sold by consumers back to the grid has invigorated
the renewable energy industry.

"It is time to begin the transformation of the energy industry in NSW
and to move away from coal.

"I am pleased Mr de Jong has provided this advice to improve NSW's
response to climate change." Senator Nettle said.
