GREENS SUPPORT A WOMAN?S RIGHT TO CHOOSE

The Greens in Victorian Parliament have indicated that they will vote in
favour of decriminalising abortion, after being briefed on the legislation
set to be introduced by Ms Candy Broad, in Parliament this week.

"I support law reform for abortion. It is an issue I feel strongly about.
I spoke about it in my inaugural speech in Parliament last December, as I
wished to be open with my views on this issue at the first opportunity,"
said Colleen Hartland.

"We think this is an important initiative. It's long overdue. It's
outrageous that a medical procedure is still in the criminal code in this
day and age. It's a matter for a woman to decide," said Colleen Hartland.

"This issue crosses party lines, uniting women and men. We compliment
Candy Broad for having the courage of her convictions to bring on this
debate," said Ms Hartland

"We don't want to return to an age where women's lives were put at risk by
illegal abortion."

"This is likely to be a conscience vote, however all three Victorian
Greens MLCs support reform in this area", said Colleen Hartland
