Polls raise spectre of hostile Senate
The consistently bad polls spelling a Howard government loss and a Rudd
Labor win at the election raise the spectre of a hostile Senate, Greens
leader Bob Brown said today.
"The feeling that Kevin Rudd will be Prime Minister is consolidating in
the electorate. The likely prospect of a double-dissolution election as
a result of a Costello-directed hostile Senate, if Mr Howard resigns
following an election loss, will come into focus as election day draws
near," Senator Brown said.
"To return the balance of power to the crossbench, the Coalition must
lose two Senate seats. It is impossible for Labor to win control of the
Senate. The Greens are essential to taking enough votes off the
Coalition to restore the balance of power. We have now announced our
Senate team in all states and the ACT," Senator Brown said.
