HARTLAND CALLS PUBLIC MEETING FOR YARRAVILLE UNDERPASS CAMPAIGN

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has called a public meeting to discuss the
Yarraville train crossing.

"There's a lot of new information the public needs to know" said Ms
Hartland.

"There's a City of Maribyrnong report, there's the truck accident, there's
a letter from the Transport Minister Lynne Kosky, which hasn't addressed
any safety issues. It basically says anyone hit by a train can only blame
themselves. "

"This morning the boom gates were down for ten solid minutes before the
8.01am train, and people had to choose between crossing illegally or
waiting 20 minutes for the next train. Of course some crossed illegally,
and thank goodness they were lucky, but we cannot rely on luck any more."

"We really need to rev up the campaign to make the Yarraville crossing
safe for pedestrians and traffic. I don't want to stand up in Parliament
and say 'I told you so'. I want a safe crossing."
