Greens will go to election as Australia's
"nuclear-free" party
Brown slams Howard's nuclear PR plan
The Greens will go this year's federal election
as Australia's 'nuclear-free' party, Greens Leader Bob Brown said in
Sydney today
"Howard is for nuclear reactors. Rudd is for
open-slather uranium exports. Both will face growing international
pressure for Australia to become the world's nuclear waste dump.
"The Greens want Australia to be nuclear-free
and leave the uranium in the ground. Our policy is for Australia to
lead the world in energy-efficiency, renewable energy, including solar
and geothermal power and demand management. This is where Germany's
Christian Democrats are now leading the way," Senator Brown said.
"The Howard Government's plan to pour millions
of dollars from taxpayers into advocating nuclear enrichment and nuclear
power stations is corrupt, even if it is legal," Senator Brown said.
"And it is likely to backfire - Australians will
not be taken in by nuclear because it is unnecessary and it is
dangerous," Senator Brown said.
