Lennon must accept end of wild forest logging - Brown
Tasmania's Labor Premier Paul Lennon is facing the end of logging of
Tasmania's wild forests, Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"The Labor conference's mooted policy opening the way for the protection
of more high conservation value forests in Tasmania comes out of polling
showing huge public opposition to wood-chipping of world heritage value
forests and wildlife in Tasmania and on the mainland," Senator Brown
said.
"This issue is a potent vote changer in Tasmania and mainland
electorates. The prospect of Gunns' pulp mill locking in forest
destruction for decades to come is a loser amongst swinging voters in
northern Tasmania," Senator Brown said.
"The forests issue will be a top rank consideration for Greens' voters'
preferences," Senator Brown added.
