Greens support 'Closing the Gap' Campaign
"The Australian Greens applaud the launch of the 'Close the Gap'
Campaign which promotes practical measures which decrease the Indigenous
life expectancy gap of 17 years," said Senator Rachel Siewert today.
"We need to set real targets and deliver measurable outcomes on pressing
issues like chronic disease, infant mortality rates, early childhood
development and access to primary health care and affordable medicines,"
she said.
"The Howard Government continues to take the wrong approach on
Indigenous health, with more money being poured into bureaucracy and
less making an impact on the ground."
"The Government is trying to rescue its failed whole-of-government and
mainstreaming approach and continues to put red tape ahead of outcomes.
We should be putting more effort and resources into boosting the many
successful community programs and initiatives that are delivering real
results instead," said Senator Siewert.
