Greens celebrate record result in Queensland election

Greens Senator Kerry Nettle has on behalf of the Greens Federal
Paliamentarians congratulated the Queensland Greens for a record result
in yesterday's election.

"8% across the state confirms the Greens as the third force in that
state and bodes well for a successful Senate campaign next year,"
Senator Nettle said.

"The Greens have increased their vote once again having polled record
results in the last federal and state polls which is a remarkable
acheivement.

"If Queensland had proportional representation then their would be 6
Greens in Parliament now.

"The Greens nationally are focused on rescuing the Senate from majority
control at the next federal election and to do that Queensland will have
to return a Green Senator instead of a National or Liberal.

"The water issue as well as public transport, public health and schools
were what made Queenslanders vote Green in record numbers.

"With the Greens offering real solutions to the threat of climate change
we hope to see more record results in coming elections."
