Consolidated Builders plans will destroy a community

ACT Greens MLA Deb Foskey has dismissed the concerns expressed for residents of the Narrabundah Long Stay Caravan Park by its new owners (Consolidated Builders Limited) as weasel words.

"Managing Director of Consolidated Builders, Josip Zivko, claims it is a reputable Canberra company with strong links to the community, whose reputation is important to it."   

"In this case however it has chosen to destroy a whole community" Dr Foskey said today.

 "There is no comfort for the residents in Mr Zivko's comments that he does not like to see families treated unfairly, and will do what he can to help. These are weasel words."

"The village he plans to empty is a healthy functioning community."

"These people now face losing their life savings: they will have nowhere to live and they will lose valuable support from each other."

"Support which saves the ACT Government heaps in services it would have to deliver if the residents lived on their own."

"This government talks about the importance of Canberra's community fabric. Its logo is 'Building our city - building our community'."

 "But what we face is the reverse.  If Consolidated Builders eradicate this viable and important community it would be an economic and social disaster."

"The moral responsibility however is shared by Koomarri. If, Koomarri, a charity, had any integrity it would ask Mr Zivko to walk away from the deal and hand the Caravan Park back to be run as community housing" Dr Foskey said.
