Koomarri regret not enough

ACT Greens MLA has called for the new owners of the Narrabundah Long Stay Caravan Park to walk away from the purchase and for Koomarri to hand it back to the ACT Government.

"Given the new owners have not yet been entered onto the title for the Narrabundah Long Stay Caravan Park, Koomarri ought to flag it would like to back out of its deal and return the Caravan Park to the ACT Government" Dr Foskey said today.

"That at least would put some moral pressure on the new owners to do likewise."

"The president of Koomarri, ACTEW-AGL Chief Executive John Mackay, has issued a statement today regretting the imminent eviction of a whole community."

"Such regret means little in the light of Mr Mackay's previous comment that Koomarri had treated the Park as an asset like any other."

"I have no reason to question Mr Mackay's comment that the park was relatively unprofitable and not contributing to Koomarri's core business. But he fails to acknowledge that it was given to them free of charge."

"The only moral and community minded approach would have been for Koomarri, once it decided to divest itself of the Park, to hand it back to the Department of Housing."

"There are more details about this tawdry affair that need to be on the public record:

§	Mr Mackay must let the community know what windfall profit Koomarri is likely to make from this disaster.

§	the Canberra community must be assured that the tender process was above board, and that all expressions of interest were closely looked at

§	The shadowy figures behind the business which is evicting the residents must stand up in public and accept responsibility for their actions" Dr Foskey said.
