*Blind Candidate with Transport Vision*
Blind Greens candidate for Moggill, Geoff Munck, has a transport vision
for beleaguered motorists traveling from Moggill, Pullenvale, and
Kenmore to the city. He’s asking why both major parties have been blind
to this solution for the past 40 years.
The Queensland Government owns a corridor of land that had originally
been intended for car use under the now discredited Wilbur Smith Plan of
the 1960s.
“This Los Angeles style plan killed the tram system and built a
car-based transport infrastructure in Brisbane,” Mr Munck said.
“Luckily, however, a corridor of land originally set aside for roads, is
still available.”
“When elected to parliament, I will be demanding that work on a light
rail system be set up within one year using the Wilbur Smith Sub
Arterial Road Reserve.”
The light rail system would join Moggill Rd via the Western Freeway and
meet the rail network at Indooroopilly Station. There is also the
ability to extend the rail along the corridor as far as Mt Crosby via
Karana Downs.
“If the car-based system could be considered as Brisbane’s arteries,
then Moggill Road is suffering from massive arteriosclerosis,” the
Greens candidate said.
“Commuters at Bellbowrie have told me that they are now leaving for work
at 6a.m. to get to work on time.”
The light rail is part of Mr. Munck’s integrated solution which also
includes 15 minute express bus loop the length of Moggill Rd to the
Queensland University via rail and ferry connections at Toowong, plus a
cross river ferry linking Bellbowrie to the Sumners Road bus interchange.
Mr Munck, said that his blindness has always motivated him to see things
clearly and has given him lots of determination. Having represented
Queensland in blind cricket and sailing, he’s keen to represent against
in the Queensland parliament.
