Recycled water is safe. Jos takes the taste test.
Queensland Greens candidate for Mt Ommaney Jos Hall has accepted the
challenge from a reader of a local paper to be a “guinea pig” and drink
recycled water.
Today in her electorate Jos offered the public to take the taste test.
People were offered Brisbane tap water, tank water and recycled water
from Singapore.
“People in Europe, America and Singapore have been drinking recycled
water for years without health problems she said. The planet is a closed
environment, and all water has been recycled, many times over. In the
driest continent on earth, why do we believe that we can have water that
has never been used before.” said Ms Hall.
“With South East Queensland experiencing the worst drought in over 100
years and dams at below 30%, we need to accept reality and use recycling
water for domestic use.” said Ms Hall.
“There are a great many fears and misconceptions being fostered
discouraging the use of recycled water, and it is important for people
to be able to sample the water for themselves,” Ms Hall said.
Ms Hall said, “the Greens applauded the initiative of the Premier that
he would consider introducing recycled water into the Wivenhoe Dam. This
needs to be done as soon as possible.”
Recycled water is a far more sustainable and cheaper option than
building both the Wyaralong and Traveston Crossing dams, as recycled
water can account for 40% of our water needs”. Ms Hall said.
To drought proof SEQ, the Greens insist that a combination of water
tanks, demand management, water efficiency and recycled water can meet
the water needs of South East Queensland.
“I am attempting to source enough recycled water to be able to drink
solely for every day of the election campaign to prove this water is not
only comparitable but more superior to the water we currently use” said
Ms Hall.
