Greens slam Government for inaction over electric car
SA Government in-action over the Reva electric car has made a mockery of
their much vaunted 'national leadership' on climate change, says Greens
MLC Mark Parnell.
The Reva is an all-electric car that costs less than a dollar to charge
up and is emissions free. The Solar Shop, a South Australian company,
has been forced to send their specially imported Reva to Western
Australia for trials because the South Australian government won't allow
trials here.
"This is a disgrace - 3 million similar vehicles operate in Europe with
an impeccable safety record", Mr Parnell said.
"The Reva costs around 60 cents to charge up, making it an exciting and
cost-effective option for many South Australians hard hit by rising
petrol prices.
"I'm at a total loss to understand why Premier Rann and Minister Conlon
aren't rushing to get behind a South Australian company keen to find
solutions to rising energy and petrol costs and greenhouse gas
emissions.
"The Government is very happy to trumpet its climate change leadership
but appears to be very slow to actually doing anything about it.
"If climate change really is a greater threat than terrorism, as Premier
Rann has declared, surely a simple trial of a proven technology is the
least we can do", said Mr Parnell.
