Vanstone should apologise to migrant community

Greens Senator Kerry Nettle has called on the Minister for Immigration
and Multicultural Affairs, Senator Vanstone to apologise for her
statement about Australia's migrant community in Parliament today.

In Senate Question time today Senator Vanstone was speaking about
migrants and addressing Labor Senators said, "You brought people in to
put them on welfare queues."

"I was appalled to hear the Minister for Multicultural Affairs speaking
about Australian migrants in this way", Senator Nettle said.

"This is a slur on the migrant community and Minister Vanstone should
retract her statement and apologise.

"Her comments were both wholly inaccurate and deeply insulting.

"Migrants have built this nation and are at the core of our country's
social and economic success."
